Effective tomorrow, five board members of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) have resigned. One of the resigning members is the board chair, and all five members reside outside the state of Texas.

According to information on the ERCOT website:

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to more than 26 million Texas customers -- representing about 90 percent of the state's electric load...ERCOT is a membership-based 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation, governed by a board of directors and subject to oversight by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature.

Two separate investigations were announced - one in Harris county and another in Travis county. The Harris county investigation will look into decisions made by the ERCOT board. The Travis county investigation will determine whether criminal charges should be filed against any person or entity.
