After a review of cellphone videos and speaking with witnesses, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said that the actions of Senior Deputy Ben Fields were not acceptable. He has been fired.

At Spring Valley High School in South Carolina, white School Resource Officer Ben Fields violently arrested a black female student who refused to leave the classroom. In a video, the officer can be seen flipping the student out of her chair, then dragging her across the floor.

The attorney for the student said she was injured during the arrest.

The officer has been suspended without pay.

The FBI will conduct both a criminal and civil investigation into the arrest.
