After an hours-long manhunt, the shooter, Robert "Bobby" E. Crimo III, was taken into custody late yesterday.
Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart announced that Crimo has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder.
The gun used in the shooting, a "high-powered" rifle similar to an AR-15, and another rifle found in Crimo's vehicle are believed to have been legally purchased. Other firearms were found at Crimo's residence in nearby Highwood.
Incidents which occurred before the shooting in April and September of 2019 show that Crimo was dealing with mental health issues.
Crimo is an aspiring rapper who goes by the name "Awake the Rapper." He has posted music videos on YouTube and other social media platforms, some of which are bloody and violent with depictions of mass murder.
One of the wounded people died in a local hospital, bringing the death toll to seven.
The current victim count (dead and wounded) stands at 45.
