In yesterday's election in Hong Kong, pro-democracy candidates won 347 of the 452 district council seats, giving them control of 17 of the city's 18 district councils.
Pro-Beijing candidates won 60 seats and independents won 45.
About 2.9 million people voted in the election (over 71% of registered voters).
In the 2015 election only about 1.4 million voted and pro-Beijing councillors won 298 seats (giving them control of all 18 district councils).
