On February 10, 2015, 35-year-old Antonio Zambrano-Montes was shot and killed by Pasco, Washington Police after throwing rocks at them.
A video of the incident shows officers firing shots at Zambrano-Montes as he was running away from them (at least 13 shots were fired). Zambrano-Montes was not armed with a gun or a knife when he was shot.
On February 13, 2015, the family of Zambrano-Montes filed a $25 million wrongful-death claim against the city of Pasco.
Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto expressed his "condemnation of the disproportionate use of lethal force" in the incident.
