In Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel won a fourth term in office with her party receiving 33.5% of the vote (compared to winning 41.5% of the vote in Germany's last election in 2013).
The far-right AfD party received just over 13% of the vote - the first time that party has become a part of the German parliament since 1961.
