A CBS News correspondent asked Ed Kraus the following:
What can you tell members of the community who have told us incidents like this are why they do not trust Fort Worth police?
Kraus responded:
I tell them, I get it. We're trying to ensure that they act and react...with the servant's heart, instead of a warrior's heart.

Oct 14, 2019:
Fort Worth Police Officer Aaron Dean was charged with murder in the October 12, 2019 shooting death of Atatiana Jefferson.
Responding to a non-emergency call from a neighbor about an open door at the Jefferson residence, Dean shot Atatiana through a glass window when he saw that she had a gun in her hands. Dean failed to identify himself as a police officer prior to shooting.
Dean, a white man, resigned several hours before being taken into custody. Later in the day he was released after posting a $200,000 bond.
According to Fort Worth Police Chief Ed Kraus:
Had the officer not resigned, I would have fired him for violations of several policies including our use-of-force policy, our de-escalation policy and unprofessional conduct.
Kraus promised a "thorough, transparent and speedy" investigation into the incident.
