On December 7, 2014 the CBS News program 60 Minutes aired a segment about Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong entitled "Disrupting Cancer".
Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a surgeon, professor, and medical researcher who was instrumental in the development of the cancer drug Abraxane® in the 1990's, is doing cutting-edge research and development that may lead to new and more effective ways of treating cancer.
Dr. Soon-Shiong is using high-tech computers and genome sequencing to identify genetic mutations that are specific to a person's particular type of cancer. Dr. Soon-Shiong believes that this approach will result in a new way of classifying cancer by specific genetic mutation rather than by body part (lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc.). He also believes that cancer may eventually become more of a "chronic disease" as opposed to the more serious, life-threatening disease it is now. The ultimate goal is to be able to develop more specific and effective cancer drugs.

I don't believe the US will allow a cure to be shared as all the doctors, hospital systems, post acute care facilities and surgery centers would lose money and that is NOT what is wanted in this country.
I know there have probably been other cures not shared, or didn't get funding due to this, but I pray this doctor is successful as he doesn't need anyone's financial backing.
