May 18, 2019:
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrision won re-election defeating his challenger, the Labor Party leader Bill Shorten.
With 76% of the votes counted, Morrision's Liberal-National coalition received 74 votes compared to Shorten's 65 votes (76 votes are needed to win).
For the past two years opinion polls showed Shorten leading over Morrision, so Morrison's victory is a surprise, not unlike Donald Trump's election as U.S. president in 2016.
