Anis Amri was shot and killed by Italian police near the city of Milan.
Amri was on foot when he was stopped by two police officers, when he pulled a gun from his backpack and began shooting at the officers. One officer was shot in the shoulder. The other officer shot and killed Amri.
The Islamic State released a video showing Amri pledging allegiance to its leader, Abu-Bakr al-Baghdadi.

German federal prosecutors said that fingerprints found inside the cabin and on the outside of the truck used in the attack match the fingerprints of the suspect, Anis Amri.

Inside the cabin of the truck, police found personal identification papers for a 24-year-old man born in Tunisia named Anis Amri. Amri is the prime suspect in the attack and a manhunt for him is underway in Germany and across Europe.
The Islamic State called the attacker a "soldier of the Islamic State".
